Dr. Li is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Guangzhou Medical University, China. He is also vice-president of the Guangzhou Huiai Hospital and has worked for over 35 years in psychiatry. Dr. Li has held many academic positions in China, including as an editorial board member, Chinese Journal of Psychiatry (2011- ); editorial board member, Chinese Journal of Nervous and Mental Diseases (2006-2013); guest editor, Journal of Psychiatry (2011- ); (4) president, Guangzhou Society of Psychiatry in the Guangzhou Medical Association (2004-2018).
Dr. Li has made significant contributions to the field of cultural psychiatry and community psychiatry in China. He was a board member of the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry (2015-2018). He is an editorial board member of the International Journal on Mental Health Systems (2016- ) and the vice-director of the cultural psychiatry section of the Chinese Society of Psychiatry (2013- ). He has published two books in Chinese, Culture and Psychiatry (2011, 2017) and Art and Psychiatry (2015), which are the pioneering works in the field of cultural psychiatry in China. He also has translated the English-language book Better Mental Health Care (2012) into Chinese and published over 50 articles (as the first author) and 8 book chapters. His research interests include cultural psychiatry, stigma and discrimination and his medical mission is “building a bridge between bio-psychiatry and humanism.” In addition, he received the 2018 Creative Education in Cultural Psychiatry Award from WACP at the 5th World Congress of Cultural Psychiatry in New York City.
