Dr Laura Ospina Pinillos is a psychiatrist with a special interest in child, adolescent and family psychiatry. In 2011 she became a consultant psychiatrist in Colombia and from 2012-2013 she studied family therapy in Turin- Italy. Dr Ospina Pinillos is currently a PhD candidate and research fellow at the Brain and Mind Centre in Sydney, Australia. During her time in the Centre, Dr Ospina Pinillos has been actively involved in the design, research and development of several technological solutions to better assist young people to manage their mental health and wellbeing. Her PhD focuses on developing a Mental Health e-Clinic for Spanish-speaking young people and she has focused her efforts on bringing these innovative systems to Colombia and the developing world. This work places her as a pioneer in the adaptation of mental health e-tools into Spanish and has built on her previous work in the development, validation and cultural adaptation of scales and tests to Spanish and Colombia. In the past two years she has been instrumental in the development of collaborative research partnerships between Australian and Colombian researchers.
Dr. Ospina Pinillos completed her medical degree and trained as a psychiatrist at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in Colombia. She also trained in child, adolescent and family psychiatry at the New South Wales Institute of Psychiatry. In recent years she has worked in the development of e-health clinical programs, focusing on Spanish language and culturally relevant mental health resources. Her scientific production includes papers in scientific journals and conference presentations on affective disorders, access of young people to mental health services and the integration of social media and e-tools for access to mental health care and suicide prevention.
